Sony has announced that the PlayStation Plus subscription will offer a limited-time free multiplayer weekend for all PS5 and PS4 users. However, this may not be the best time to give fans a brief trial of a PlayStation Plus feature, especially as the gaming industry continues to discuss Sony's recent controversial decisions.

On July 1, the same day the company announced the PS Plus promotion, it also revealed that PlayStation games will no longer receive physical disc releases starting in 2028. The decision has sparked widespread concern among gamers, with many calling it an "anti-consumer" policy. Some have also criticized the follow-up PS Plus free multiplayer weekend, describing it as a "band-aid on a bullet wound."

From July 3 to July 5, a PlayStation Plus subscription won't be required to play multiplayer games online. During the 72-hour free trial, players can access all online multiplayer features. Needless to say, PS4 and PS5 users who take advantage of the promotion won't be able to claim the free PS Plus monthly games, as the offer only unlocks online multiplayer for games they already own.
