At the time of writing, we are rapidly approaching the sixth anniversary of the launch of the PlayStation 5. First launched back in November 2020, the next-gen PlayStation console arrived right in the starting months of the COVID-19 pandemic, and despite being the optimal time for people to be gaming, Sony was hit with stock shortages and as always, scalpers were not far behind. As a result, many users did not get their hands on the PS5 until at least a year later.

So, it is perhaps no wonder that many of us feel as though the PlayStation 5 has hardly been utilized, especially as its mid-generation console, the PlayStation 5 Pro, launched back in November 2024. On top of that, with hardly any exclusive games under its belt, the PlayStation 5 era has had its fair share of issues, but it seems as though Sony is already ready to move on.
