Pokémon may have hit the 30-year mark in 2026, but we're far from finished. Pokémon Winds & Waves was officially announced as part of the series' 30th anniversary, and it looks... well, it looks fantastic. In 2027, we'll be getting a brand-new tropical open-world region, new monsters, and doubtless plenty more surprises.

Naturally, the arrival of new Pokémon, like the new starters, always promises to shake things up. How will new moves or Type combinations impact competitive play, for instance? One of the more recent leaks has suggested that we're getting a new Type combination that we've never had in 30 years of Pokémon, and it could be a major game-changer.

For those who don't know (although I'm certain most of you probably do), there are plenty of Pokémon out there with Dual Types. This can broaden their movesets, give them unexpected resistances, or even make them extra weak to certain Types. Dual Types have allowed for some really unusual combos over the years. We've had Flying/Ground, Normal/Ghost, even Fire/Grass. I'll be honest, I kind of thought we'd explored all the Dual Type possibilities at this point, but I was wrong.
