The Shantae series is returning to the spotlight soon, as developer WayForward confirmed the news in early July. While no further details about the next Shantae entry were revealed, WayForward left behind a visual clue to give fans some small idea about the next game.

With six different Shantae games now available across multiple platforms, WayForward revealed that the seventh Shantae game is in active development. WayForward confirmed during the 2026 Anime Expo in Los Angeles that Shantae's next adventure has a 2027 release window. While WayForward did not share what the next Shantae game's title or theme would be, the developers shared a new image of Shantae on social media. The picture stated that brand-new Shantae tales were coming in 2027, and Shantae herself was seen with a new hairstyle. The hairstyle showed Shantae with three braided ponytails, with spiked metal balls attached to the ends of them. Given that the hairstyle is similar to a flail or morningstar weapon, it is possible that this hairstyle could be used as a melee weapon in the next Shantae game.
