Ask any Bethesda fan which franchise they are most excited to see a new game for in the future, and their answer is likely to be either Fallout or The Elder Scrolls. We know that The Elder Scrolls 6 has been in development for a long while, with The Elder Scrolls Online’s new season launching later this week, and a fifth mainline installment of Fallout being released sooner rather than later would be a boon, as it could inspire synergy with Amazon Prime Video’s TV show adaptation.

It’s bittersweet, then, to learn that these franchises certainly are Bethesda and ZeniMax’s chief priority. Because even if Fallout and The Elder Scrolls make sense as the two franchises that Bethesda would want to put on a pedestal, many studios are paying the price for their success and popularity.

As reported by Bloomberg, a major overhaul is hitting Xbox, resulting in 3,200 jobs being axed and five studios—Compulsion, Double Fine, Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, and Arkane, possibly—being divested. Notably, this report, which draws from a memo that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma wrote to staff, states that “the goal at Xbox is to streamline the business and reinvest in bigger projects.”
