The Walking Dead is still one of AMC's biggest franchises despite the original series concluding in 2022, with the zombie universe now carried almost entirely by character-driven spin-offs. The biggest releases on the horizon include The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3, which recently premiered, and the fourth and final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, set to bring Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride's long-running story to a close later this year.
Fan sentiment surrounding the franchise has been mixed in recent years, however. While viewers continue to embrace beloved legacy characters like Daryl, Rick, Michonne, Maggie, and Negan, many believe the spin-offs have struggled to recapture the magic of the original series.
Among the newer projects, The Ones Who Live's focus on Rick and Michonne has been more or less a hit, while opinions on Dead City and Daryl Dixon are definitely more divided. Even so, longtime fans remain invested largely because of their attachment to the characters and the world first established in Robert Kirkman's acclaimed comic books, which many still consider the franchise's definitive version.
