The next Far Cry game could still be a ways off, according to reports out of Ubisoft. The series of semi-sandbox, first-person shooter games, perhaps best known for its colorful cast of villains, was recently confirmed to have a sequel in the works in an Ubisoft financial report. But we've seen no sign of it otherwise.

What little we do know about Far Cry's future, though has already caused controversy, as industry insiders decry Ubisoft's experimentation with AI and fans express concerns over a potentially long wait. The latest news out of Ubisoft suggests that wait could be even longer.

A report by Insider Gaming has affirmed that the next Far Cry game has repeatedly been delayed, another Far Cry game is now in very early development, and a third has been canceled. We'll start with the good news: the new game has passed the conceptualization stage. It's codenamed "Kodiak," which suggests it's likely to take place in Alaska, and described by Insider Gaming's sources as an open-world game where "player interactions and player-driven stories take center stage."
