Nintendo has just confirmed that Super Mario Sunshine is heading to Nintendo Switch Online on August 13, 2026. The beloved GameCube game was first announced for Nintendo Switch Online all the way back during the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal event in April 2025.
Since its announcement in April 2025, Nintendo Switch Online's GameCube Classics library has received a total of nine games. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, and Soulcalibur 2 all released alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 in June 2025. Super Mario Strikers joined a month later, and Chibi-Robo, Luigi's Mansion, and Wario World all joined before the end of 2025. In the last seven months, just two games have been added to Switch Online's GameCube library, those being Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness.
Fans think that a common pattern with Nintendo games might reveal the release date for the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on Switch 2.
