Horror Game Fans Will Want to Tune In to Gamescom 2024

Supermassive Games may unveil the next chapter in its interactive horror series The Dark Pictures Anthology at Gamescom 2024. The first season of The Dark Pictures Anthology wrapped up in 2022 with The Devil in Me, and fans have been waiting for the next entry in the series since its well-received release.

The Dark Pictures games provide players with hints by leading them to pictures that show brief video clips of scenes to come, similar to the tarot cards in The Quarry. Players are then tasked with making difficult choices that could potentially kill some of the controllable characters in the game. The final pictures to be discovered in each of the four games in the series' first season were used to tease a potential death in the following title. This was the case in The Devil in Me, which also showed a trailer for the series' second season following its credits.

Rather than drawing from Hollywood, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 should look to some of gaming's most horrifying hits for inspiration.
