New Pokemon Release Officially Marks Mega Golisopod and Mega Baxcalibur's Return

Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Mega Golisopod and Mega Baxcalibur are officially returning on September 8 in a new update for Pokemon Champions, featuring their new abilities. Pokemon Champions has been getting small but steady updates since its launch in early April this year, and it currently features fewer than 200 unique Pokemon out of the 1,000+ in the whole series. The trend seems to be to release small updates and just a few new Pokemon at once, which can be a blessing and a curse for the meta because it won't escalate, but then it may be stuck in a not-so-great state.

Though the game came out in October of 2025, all Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Evolutions have yet to be introduced in Pokemon Champions, and some of them still have no ability revealed. Abilities can make or break Mega Evolutions, and some of the new Megas from Pokemon Legends: Z-A didn't really see any competitive play because of that, such as Mega Victreebel. Now, Mega Golisopod and Mega Baxcalibur are making their VGC debut, and they may be incredibly powerful with the right abilities.
