Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann recently commented on The Last of Us and the future of the popular franchise. The Last of Us hit the scene in 2013 to widespread critical acclaim, with many pointing to the original game as one of the best games ever made. The Last of Us Part 2 earned similar acclaim and won numerous awards, but certain plot developments proved controversial with some fans. In any case, The Last of Us franchise is still going strong, with all kinds of merch, remakes, ports, and a hit HBO series keeping interest in it alive.
The Last of Us is currently filming Season 3, which is expected to premiere on HBO at some point in 2027. The third season of the show will adapt Abby's side of the story, with much of it running concurrently with Ellie's journey from Season 2. It will end with the conclusion of the second game, bringing the story to a close. Season 3 will be the end of the show, but that doesn't mean there won't be more Last of Us for fans to enjoy.
