Experienced from a top-down perspective, players take on the role of Solid Snake after he is pulled out of retirement in order to infiltrate Shadow Moses, a nuclear weapons facility which has been taken over by Liquid Snake and his team of rogue agents. In order to stop the agents, known as FOXHOUND, Solid Snake must liberate the hostages and prevent Metal Gear REX from being unleashed, a mecha unit capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to anywhere in the world.
