PlayStation Brings QSSR AI Upscaling to the Base PS5

PlayStation has revealed Quick Spectral Super Resolution, or QSSR, its new AI upscaling technology for the base PlayStation 5, and honestly, this is pretty exciting stuff. We have already seen what Sony has been able to do with PSSR or PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, on the PlayStation 5 Pro, but bringing some of that technology over to the standard PS5 is a much bigger deal.

The PS5 Pro is a considerably more expensive console, and features technology that the older PlayStation 5 doesn’t, so anything Sony can do to improve image quality on the millions of base PS5 consoles already sitting in people’s homes is a win.

And the newly announced QSSR already supports two games, with Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei getting support for the new upscaling technology. And while Sony is not saying QSSR suddenly makes the base PS5 equal to the PS5 Pro, because it obviously does not, it does help close that gap a little. What makes this even more interesting is that Sony is not keeping QSSR limited to a handful of first party studios.
