Lorcana’s Serialized Cards Push It Into the TCG Collector Arms Race

Disney Lorcana has come a long way from being the game nobody could find on shelves. It now has organized play, set rotation, multiplayer experiments, and a digital version in development. Now Ravensburger is taking it somewhere every major TCG seems to end up eventually: premium collector boosters and serialized cards with its upcoming Into the Inkdark set.

Alongside the Hyperia City reveal, Ravensburger gave an early look at Into the Inkdark, the first Lorcana set of 2027. It introduces collector boosters with a new tier called Illustrious cards. Each set will have six, with every card serialized to just 23 copies. That works out to 138 Illustrious cards per set, worldwide.

Pulling one would be the story of a collector’s life. The bigger story is what the announcement says about Lorcana’s future. It’s entering the same scarcity race that has reshaped Magic, Pokémon, and sports cards.

Lorcana has always had rare cards. Enchanted cards have been around since The First Chapter, offering alternate art and premium finishes that nobody needs to play. Iconic cards raised the ceiling after that.
