Martin Klima, co-founder of Warhorse Studios, hopes GTA 6 can make it easier for the rest of the industry to sell AAA games at an $80 price point. Rockstar is set to test that ceiling with GTA 6, launching on November 19 with a $79.99 standard edition, making it one of the highest-profile games yet to launch at that price.
All things considered, few games are better positioned to test whether players will accept $80 as the new normal than Rockstar's latest open-world blockbuster. GTA 6 has the audience, budget, and brand recognition to charge more without potentially facing quite the same risk as a smaller publisher, and its Ultimate Edition goes even further at $99.99. As of now, GTA 6 pre-order numbers are even being called "exceptional" by Take-Two. If millions of players buy the standard version at launch with little resistance, other studios could have a clear example to point to when setting prices for their own AAA releases.
