Ubisoft's classic special ops shooter Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell has been notably absent for over a decade, but is primed to make a serious comeback in 2027. The last major Splinter Cell game release was Blacklist back in 2013, and while a remake of the original Splinter Cell is allegedly still in development, Ubisoft has essentially shown nothing of the project since it was announced back in 2021. However, fans of the series can reunite with protagonist Sam Fisher in 2027, with a new release coming early in the year.
The Splinter Cell game series kicked off in 2002 with the original game simply titled Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell as a timed Xbox exclusive. Splinter Cell has seen a total of six mainline games in the years since this initial launch, following the highly trained Echelon agent Sam Fisher as he works covert operations to uncover and thwart terrorist plots through action-adventure and shooter gameplay. In addition to the six games, there are nine Splinter Cell novels, the most recent of which was released in 2023.
