2K Games has built one of the biggest catalogs in gaming, with franchises ranging from Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption to Borderlands, BioShock, Civilization, and Mafia to its annual sports releases under the 2K Sports label. The company has also spent years turning many of its games into long-running services, giving players reasons to keep returning well after a game's initial release. For some of 2K Games' titles, however, that support eventually reaches its final chapter.
Keeping a game online indefinitely is not always possible, particularly when major features depend on publisher-controlled servers. Multiplayer, progression systems, virtual currencies, community features, and other online services can all disappear once those servers are taken offline, leading to the rise of the Stop Killing Games movement. At that point, a game can remain installed and playable while still losing some of the features that made it a long-term part of a player's library.
