Star Trek has introduced a number of iconic captains over the franchise's 60-year run, with characters like Jean-Luc Picard and James T. Kirk becoming sci-fi legends. Captains like Kathryn Janeway, Benjamin Sisko, and Christopher Pike have also redefined what it means to lead a Starfleet crew, each bringing a unique perspective to the responsibilities of the chair.
With Star Trek celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2026, there's no better time to introduce a fresh take on what it means to be a Starfleet captain. And this week, the franchise is officially introducing a brand-new captain on October 20 in Outposts Unknown, letting fans embark on an original adventure that promises to explore an unfamiliar corner of the galaxy like they've never had the chance to before.
Releasing tomorrow, Star Trek: Outposts Unknown is a brand-new game that takes place alongside the Strange New Worlds timeline and introduces a new captain to the mix: you. In Outposts Unknown, players lead their own crew aboard the U.S.S. Resonant, a Starfleet vessel dispatched to the remote X'Lehari System on a mission to help an alien civilization facing an unprecedented catastrophe.
