In 2027, the Final Fantasy series will celebrate its 40th anniversary, and Square Enix has already confirmed a new release set to drop in January. Since 1987, Final Fantasy has been a pioneer of the JRPG genre, establishing gameplay and features that have become the gold standard today. The music of Final Fantasy has also become iconic among gaming soundtracks, which Square Enix plans to showcase in this upcoming anniversary release.
Just a few days from release, Square Enix has officially revealed a new look at Final Fantasy 6's Terra ahead of her return to the franchise.
To celebrate 40 years of Final Fantasy, Square Enix is releasing Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary: The Crystal Edition. This release is a vinyl record composed of one iconic song that represents each mainline Final Fantasy game, for a total of 16 tracks. The soundtrack is already available for pre-order in Japan for 8,800 yen, with a release date of January 6, 2027. Pages for North American and European releases of the soundtrack are also up, but pre-orders are not yet available in these regions.
