Sega has announced that the original Sonic Generations will still be available for Xbox and PC owners to purchase and download, even after the launch of Sonic X Shadow Generations. The upcoming Sonic X Shadow Generations is an enhanced remaster of the 2011 title, which was previously released on PC via Steam, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The remaster not only brings the original game to new systems, but also touts a brand-new story campaign starring Shadow the Hedgehog, one of Sonic's iconic rivals.
While many fans were excited about Sonic Generations getting a remaster, the announcement was also met with some concerns. Many worried about the fate of the original version of Sonic Generations, and wondered if Sonic X Shadow Generations would replace it. These concerns were raised further when Sega suddenly delisted the original Sonic Generations from the Xbox 360 store ahead of the marketplace's closure on July 29. Fans were wary that the original Sonic Generations would also be delisted from Steam, just like the classic games were after Sonic Origins was released. Sega recently addressed these fears, simply stating that the original version will still be available after the launch of Sonic X Shadow Generations....
