There have been several genuinely excellent Star Trek adaptations over the years, from the stoic adventures of Picard and his crew in Next Generation, to the darker, more grounded tone of Deep Space Nine. That said, there can only ever be one that starts it all, and the Original Series is just as relevant to modern sci-fi as it has ever been.
That has seen it return in various guises over the years, whether that be via the appearance of iconic characters in newer releases (most obviously Leonard Nimoy’s turn as Spock in the JJ Abrams Kelvin Timeline films), or entire adaptations that draw on its contents.
In any case, the Original Series is far from done being relevant, and the latest big release with ties to the IP has plenty of options for those who want to get involved.
