There's no doubt that the Game of Thrones TV series didn't end in the way most were hoping, and a big part of that was how Daenerys Targaryen's story arc drew to a close. The first five or six seasons had seen the character progress from a genuinely sympathetic and oppressed figure to a warlord whose decision-making was making the audience increasingly uncomfortable.
It was all going rather well, until the final season saw her suddenly gripped by a genocidal madness that brought about the destruction of much of King's Landing. To say it was jarring would be a bit of an understatement, and it's a real shame considering the character could have happily ended up in the same place for the audience at home, if only she was given more time to get there.
That said, there's no doubt that Daenerys Targaryen was a compelling character in the story of A Song of Ice and Fire, and her return is always bound to draw interest from existing fans. Now, that's about to happen, and in an adaptation that you might not have been aware of up to this point.
