A job listing for a position at EA Motive suggests that the next Battlefield game could be going open-world. According to the listing, the studio is searching for a new Senior Environment Artist to work on the next Battlefield game, with experience working on open-world games a "plus."
The news of what would likely be a massively controversial decision comes just days after EA CEO Andrew Wilson hyped up the next Battlefield game. During a financial earnings report in August, the CEO called the upcoming shooter one of the most ambitious projects in the studio's history, whilst also saying it was one of EA's top priorities. Given the dire state that Battlefield 2042 launched in, EA and DICE are likely gearing up to make some monumental changes to the franchise, with an open-world approach now seemingly being a real possibility for the next Battlefield game.
