Waterfalls in video games used to be a magical thing. You knew that if you saw water rapidly flowing over the edge of a cliff, there would usually be some kind of treasure or secret behind it. Games like The Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart, and Tomb Raider were all masters in the art of waterfall secrets.
The writing has been on the illusory walls for years.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, while sublime in many areas, unfortunately, doesn't reach the lofty heights of some of the games that came before it when it comes to waterfalls. This has, quite rightly, led to upset among the game's rabid fan base.
Shadow of the Erdtree adds a bunch of new Waterfalls to Elden Ring. And, in a Reddit thread simply titled "Is Miyazaki stupid?" Players took turns complaining about the lack of secrets behind them.
The original poster started the discussion in style, saying, "Someone should really tell FromSoft that waterfalls are supposed to have SECRETS under them. CAVES, ITEMS, TREASURES, PASSAGES, CREATURES, COOL LITTLE EASTER EGGS," adding "Not just a wall. How do they not know this? Are they stupid?"
