Bungie and Aleph One have re-released the third entry of the studio's classic Marathon series for the first time in 28 years, Marathon Infinity, and it is available on Steam for absolutely free. While Bungie is mainly known for being the creator of the Halo and Destiny franchises, the studio got its start with Marathon. Bungie's FPS trilogy started in 1994, with the first game being released for Apple Macintosh computers, competing alongside the likes of Doom and Wolfenstein.
Marathon is considered one of the trailblazers of the genre, as it helped establish a number of different mechanics that are considered conventional nowadays. While Marathon isn't one of the most well-remembered games in Bungie's library, due to its limited exclusivity on Mac computers, the series has been making a comeback in recent years. Bungie and Aleph One teamed up to re-release the original Marathon trilogy on Steam, with the first game being added earlier this May, followed by the second in July. The third title in the trilogy has been added to the Steam storefront, and like the prior two entries, is available for free.
