The King of Fighters franchise has officially turned 30 years old this year, and SNK has announced that it has prepared various projects to celebrate the milestone anniversary. The King of Fighters is one of the most iconic fighting game franchises of all time, with the first entry released in 1994 as a crossover between SNK's Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting games. Other SNK series like Ikari Warriors and Psycho Soldiers were added to the roster of fighters, which then grew into its own franchise that made SNK a well-known name that could compete with the likes of Capcom's Street Fighter.

The King of Fighters is still a household name in the 2020s, as seen with the release of 2022's King of Fighters 15, along with the surprise appearance of Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui as guest fighters for Street Fighter 6. However, it appears that Terry and Mai's inclusion in Capcom's fighting game, along with various other announcements made by the studio in 2024, isn't a part of the series' 30th anniversary celebration. Instead, SNK has prepared a number of different projects that will be revealed throughout 2024.
