Pokémon TCG's Newest Ex Card Breaks A 5-Year Tradition

A new card has been announced for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, and it's one no one was expecting. As the new Paradise Dragona set is gearing up for launch in Japan on September 13, new card reveals are steadily trickling in. Most of the cards released in this set are expected to be part of the Surging Sparks set, which is scheduled for a November launch for Western markets, so the trading card community has been watching the Japan release with bated breath. And they weren't disappointed; the newest card revealed features a version of a popular Pokémon that hasn't been seen in over five years.

Revealed and translated on PokéBeach, Black Kyurem ex will join the Pokémon TCG in September. The last time a Black Kyurem appeared in the Pokémon TCG was in the Plasma Storm and Legendary Treasures packs, released over 11 years ago, in 2013. A White Kyurem was featured in the Dragon Majesty set in 2018, making this the first time a Black or White Kyurem appeared in the TCG in at least five years.
