Activision has started promoting the 25th anniversary of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, fueling anticipation that big announcements could be on the horizon. The original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater hit store shelves on September 29, 1999, and became an instant classic. The critically-acclaimed skateboarding game sold millions of copies and spawned a hugely successful franchise.
The Tony Hawk's Pro Skater sequels took the series to even greater heights, with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 considered by many to be one of the best video games of all time. Pro Skater 3 and 4 are held in similar high regard, as are the Underground duology. Unfortunately, it was after the Tony Hawk's Underground games that the franchise started to falter a bit. American Wasteland, while great, didn't reach quite the same heights as its predecessors. Project 8 was another step down, as was Proving Ground, with Pro Skater 5's abysmal reception putting the franchise on hiatus. Activision eventually remade the first two games in a single package called Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, but the series has been quiet since that collection dropped in 2020.
