The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, releasing on September 26, is a new approach for the series, but one of the game's mechanics from early in its development could have made for very different Zelda dungeons. The first Zelda game to feature Princess Zelda as its main protagonist, Echoes of Wisdom is a major departure from standard Zelda gameplay, bringing with it several new mechanics.
In a recent interview by Nintendo with the developers of Echoes of Wisdom, it was revealed that early versions of the game centered around a similar "copy and paste" mechanic, but with the intent of allowing players to "create original dungeons." This would have allowed users to "edit" their own dungeons, creating a whole new mechanic for the Legend of Zelda series.
