An industry insider has revealed that developer Rocksteady Studios is now working on a new Batman game, with PlayStation currently in the process of attempting to back the project. The last Batman game to be developed by Rocksteady Studios was 2015's Batman: Arkham Knight, but the studio would then go on to develop its first non-Batman title since 2006 with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was released earlier this year.
While there is a new Batman: Arkham VR game set to release in October, the Meta Quest 3 exclusive known as Batman: Arkham Shadow is not developed by Rocksteady Studios. Although Rocksteady did develop its own VR title in 2016 with Batman: Arkham VR, the studio has no involvement in Arkham Shadow. However, the VR title will still take place in Rocksteady's Arkham universe and act as a direct sequel to Batman: Arkham Origins, which was released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC in 2013.
Batman: Arkham Shadow is taking players back to the early days of the Caped Crusader's career, and that paves the way for one long-requested game.
