Atlus has announced that mobile game Persona 5: The Phantom X is coming to Steam, albeit only for Japanese fans. Persona 5: The Phantom X is a mobile and PC spin-off of the mainline game, and sees players embody the role of a high-school boy, becoming the Phantom Thief codenamed Wonder. Unlike the mainline Persona titles, which are long-form RPGs, The Phantom X is similar to gacha games like Genshin Impact and Tower of Fantasy. Despite the genre shift, it carries a lot of the same spirit of Persona 5, as players get to pull for Phantom Idols and their Persona II, which are essentially new Phantom Thieves and Personas they use as party members.
Persona 5: The Phantom X has been primarily marketed as a game exclusively for the Chinese market, as mainland China never got the original Persona 5. As such, P5X is meant to be its own release for the region.
