Earlier this year, reports surfaced that a Dead Space 2 remake was shelved due to poor sales, but EA later claimed that it was never in development to begin with. Either way, it looks like the series is back on ice, but with fans hungry for more, they're taking things into their own hands.
A wuss’ guide to horror games
One such fan, llSCPll, has announced that they are developing a Dead Space game played entirely within Discord called "Deep Space". They explain that it "runs [...] through a bot," meaning that it's text-based. However, it still has rendered images and a sound engine, with completely original assets.
"Deep Space is a free to play game and predicted to be at least five-to-seven hours to beat at full release," llSCPll said. "No profit is made directly from the game itself. We love Dead Space, and we know many of you do too. This passion project is our tribute to the series and adding our own twists to the storyline. Yes, DSDS is a real-time based game just like the other entries in Dead Space and has been thoroughly stress-tested and optimised".
