In light of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Games Done Quick will host a two-day event called Disaster Relief Done Quick to raise money for Direct Relief starting October 11. All donations raised during this impromptu Games Done Quick event will go to Direct Relief, and game submissions for the event are still being taken at the time of writing.
Hurricane Helene made landfall on the evening of September 26 in the Big Bend region of Florida, with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph. Helene dissipated three days later, on September 29. As a Category 4 major hurricane and the second major hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, Helene's impact spread across Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, and parts of Tennessee and Virginia. Even after its immediate landfall, Helene caused widespread property damage, including power and Internet outages across the southeastern US. At the time of writing, over 200 deaths were caused as a result of Helene's path of destruction.
