Minecraft Creator Reveals Fan Favorite Feature Wasn't Originally Going to Be in the Game

Markus Persson, the original creator of the hit sandbox game Minecraft, has stated that the game almost didn't feature a creative mode. After receiving a full release in 2011, Minecraft has gone on to receive critical acclaim and often be referred to as one of the greatest games of all time, but the sandbox game could have looked drastically different had Persson, who is widely known as 'Notch', opted not to include its popular creative mode.

These days, Notch is working on a currently unnamed game under his newly found studio, Bitshaft Entertainment. But back in 2009, the developer rose to fame after releasing the first public test build of Minecraft, which is now the best-selling video game of all time with over 300 million copies sold. Notch would eventually go on to sell the studio behind Minecraft, Mojang Studios, to Microsoft in 2014 for a massive $2.5 billion. While the popular title still receives new content updates on a regular basis, Notch now has no input on the continued development of Minecraft.
