Star Wars: Battlefront II to Bring Back Microtransactions

on | OpenCritic

In EA’s quarterly earnings call it was revealed that Star Wars: Battlefront II’s microtransactions will be returning in the next few months. There is no confirmation, however, in what format the microtransactions will be. It was also disclosed that the game underperformed in its sales, shipping only 9 million copies in its release quarter. In comparison, the first EA published Battlefront game sold 13 million units in its launch quarter.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that EA blames these poor sales on the loot-box controversy surrounding around the game’s release, where players were dissatisfied with how they could earn various characters in the multiplayer portion of the game. Players noticed that to earn these characters, they would either need to purchase loot boxes or grind within the game for an unreasonable amount of time to earn the in-game currency to purchase these characters.
