The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a 14th-century Chinese novel that tells a hybrid fiction/non-fiction story of the ending of the Han dynasty.
This story has been adapted multiple times into video games, most notably with The Romance of the Three Kingdoms tactical RPG and through the Dynasty Warriors series.
The success of Hyrule Warriors, Persona 5 Strikers, and Fire Emblem Warriors has the team wanting more.
While typically, the Dynasty Warriors games have told the full story across many of its games, in an interview with TheGamer at Tokyo Game Show, Omega Force head and Dynasty Warriors: Origins director Tomohiko Sho told me that the new title won't tell the whole story.
In Dynasty Warriors' past, the games have taken key characters from Luo Guanzhong's novel and adapted them into their own story. Sho-san tells me that Dynasty Warriors: Origins will take a different path.
“In the previous games, we’ve shown the entire Romance of the Three Kingdoms storyline, but in this game, we’re only focusing on the first half of the story, which is up to the Battle of Chibi or the Battle of the Red Cliffs,” he said.
