Argonaut Games, the newly-revived developer behind the upcoming Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster, has announced that the reworked version of the game won't be coming to Steam on PC.

In a press release, the studio confirms that the remaster, which was announced back in August alongside Argonaut's revival, will be exclusive to GOG on PC in order to ensure that it remains DRM-free (although the console releases naturally won't be).

According to Argonaut, the decision to release on GOG was made so players can "enjoy Croc without restrictions, preserving ownership and freedom". If you pick the game up on PC, you'll also get a free copy of the original game, although it looks like console players are out of luck on that front, sadly.

GOG business development head Bartosz Kwietniewski says that Croc "represents the heart" of the platform's mission, which he says is "preserving and celebrating the legacy of gaming". He goes on to say that keeping Croc DRM-free allows players to "relive the magic" and "have the true sense of ownership".

If you're unaware, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is a cult classic 1997 platformer that was originally released across PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC....
