Borderlands Community Rallies Around Terminally Ill Fan

It started with a simple request, and it has since reverberated throughout the gaming community.

A few days ago, Caleb, a 37-year-old disabled veteran diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer asked the Borderlands subreddit if there was any way that he could get into contact with Gearbox. With his cancer spreading rapidly, Caleb had been given between 7 and 12 months to live, and if chemotherapy proved successful, then fewer than two overall. Knowing he may not be around for the recently revealed Borderlands 4, Caleb shot his shot into the ether.

What happened next is the type of power that the gaming community can have. His post has since topped over 18,000 likes and several hundred comments of well-wishes and people trying to fulfill his wish.

Shortly after Caleb's post went viral, Gearbox's own Randy pitchford took to Twitter to let fans know that he was aware of the superfan's wish. In a post on Wednesday, Pitchford revealed that he and Caleb were “chatting via e-mail,” and said that “we’re going to do whatever we can to make something happen.”
