Animal Crossing: New Horizons players were reminded today of one of the game’s most important lessons -- never trust Redd, even when he has a bustling storefront. After inviolabilitey bought a painting from Redd, it was revealed to be fake, as Blathers dropped the harsh truth on the player as they attempted to sell it.

Redd’s shady behavior is nothing new to fans and players of the game. If one of his offers seems too good to be true, odds are it is, and once a player gets their hands on a fake piece of art, those bells are gone for good. There are plenty of other ways to earn bells to recoup the loss, however, and to ensure players are getting a fair deal.

Inviolabilitey had their expectations too high for Redd after purchasing a painting from his shop on Harv’s Island. Assuming the deals would be better than the items he sells on his boat, the Redditor purchased a painting believing it was authentic. “I’ve been really careful about what I buy from him, so this was my first fake,” the user stated after it was revealed that the painting was indeed fraudulent.
