WWE and Hollywood megastar John Cena recently referenced Mass Effect on social media, causing fans to wonder if he is pursuing a role in the newly announced live-action series. Earlier this month, BioWare and Amazon confirmed that they are indeed working on a live-action Mass Effect show at Amazon MGM Studios. The producers involved include current Mass Effect game project leader Michael Gamble, Legend of Zelda movie producer Avi Arad, and former Marvel Television producer Karim Zreik. Fast & Furious 9 scribe Daniel Casey will reportedly write the show.
This is all that has been officially confirmed about the live-action Mass Effect series at this time, so fans still don’t know if it will be an adaptation of the first three Mass Effect games or a completely different story set in the same universe as BioWare’s hit sci-fi RPG series. If it is the former, then the show’s creative team will have many creative choices to make due to the branching nature of the Mass Effect storyline - including who to cast as characters like the fully customizable Commander Shepard.
