Following the recent release date reveal of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's PC version, director Naoki Hamaguchi recommended the port for the lighting options on the new platform. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was initially released exclusively on PlayStation 5 earlier this February and is the second entry in Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. The second part sees Cloud, Tifa, Barrett, Aerith, and Red XIII pursuing Sephiroth, recreating iconic moments from the original JRPG in high-definition and expanded cinematic flair. While many fans did jump on the initial PS5 release, many were also waiting for the game to drop on the PC, just as Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade did back in 2021.
Square Enix finally announced that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would be coming to PC during The Game Awards 2024, with this new version of the game launching on January 23, 2025, via Steam and Epic Games Store. Square Enix also confirmed the various graphical features this new version would have, including enhanced texture quality options, compatibility with Nvidia's DLSS upscaling technology similar to the PS5 Pro's enhancements, along with more lighting options.
