The journey of this free-to-play action-adventure RPG mirrors the rocky yet triumphant trajectory of games like Final Fantasy XIV—starting with a messy launch but eventually evolving into something worth celebrating. However, unlike FFXIV, which took years to refine itself, Wuthering Waves has undergone a dramatic transformation in a much shorter span and became something worthy of attention and a space on your hard drive.
Ravenswatch is a good roguelike successfully standing out amongst the many others, offering an enthralling take on familiar characters thrust into the unknown. If you’re looking for your next roguelike fix, Ravenswatch serves up great combat, an interesting premise, and entrancing music. However, it may leave you wanting more due to its difficulty balancing and untapped story potential.
Infinity Nikki has burst into the gacha scene with a magical world full of refreshing gameplay, beautiful visuals and a stellar soundtrack. If you can steer clear of it’s dizzying spiral of menus, Miraland will take your breath away and truly offer you something special.
If you’re looking for the next great RPG from BioWare, this is not it. Dragon Age: The Veilguard hits great highs when it comes to it’s main story, its companions, and their interactions in a world that is a delight to explore but starts to fall apart when it comes to its core gameplay systems. Combat has a flashy, satisfying introduction that quickly falls into repetitiveness, RPG systems that have nothing to show under the surface, and a monotonous quest design that far outweighs the good moments.
Nikoderiko is a good platformer; it shines in areas such as level design and visuals but trips over itself when it’s asked to come up with unique ideas and what it does to really set itself apart. If you’re after another platformer that sticks with the status quo, this will do the job nicely; outside of that, it’s difficult to pinpoint what makes this stand out from the many platforming greats that Nikoderiko is inspired by.
Copycat provides many thought-provoking questions, such as the place of home, abandonment, and the emotional struggle when this is threatened in its many simple relaxing environments and mini games. The passion in this story is everlasting; although it is rough around the edges, it is one of the more heartfelt stories I’ve experienced this year.
The Plucky Squire is quite literally a children’s story brought to life, bringing back all the charm, love, and imagination that these memories hold. It delivers a comfortable nostalgic feeling while feeling fresh and full of life. The Plucky Squire is full of magical ideas, so it is a shame that one of its core ideas begins to wrinkle its magical pages, stopping The Plucky Squire from reaching its own fairy tale ending.
