All in all, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the Nintendo Switch is near perfect. It might not be the best looking version of the game, but it's the most accessible, trouble-free way to enjoy this well-worn classic.

It's not in all its glory, but it's still many steps ahead of other console ports, and a great addition to the Nintendo line-up ahead of the crucial holiday period.

Need for Speed Payback is a decent racing game held back by a weak story, grinding, and micro-transactions. If you can live with these elements, you will have a lot of fun in this game.

A game that was either rushed out, or was never given the development time it needed. There's nothing memorable about Super Lucky's Tale, be it the fairy-tale story about talking foxes taking on varying cats, or the platforming bits that make up most of its gameplay.

There's still a lot to admire here, especially the attention to sound design – from the satisfying clink of the cuffs every time you apprehend an offender, the patter of rain on windows and the windows themselves being drawn, and the jazz offering that accompanies and soothes you as you try to put an end to gruesome happenings. Unfortunately, once those turn into background wallpaper, the omissions only hurt more.

All in all, Call of Duty: World War 2 plays like the series' early hits. By no means is this a bad thing, though the overall formula and package is wearing thin.

All in all, there's more than enough to give Assassin's Creed Origins a go. Revamped combat, a fantastic representation of ancient Egypt, and a world crammed with things to do, Assassin's Creed Origins is a return to form of the franchise that has us optimistic on what to expect next.

One can only wonder what could have been possible with a longer development cycle, though we'll probably have to wait until WWE 2K19 to see the full impact of Visual Concepts' changes to the franchise.

Despite some real issues, it's hard to find fault with GT Sport. The game delivers stunning visuals, an excellent racing experience, and makes an effort to teach new players how to race.

9 / 10 - Cuphead
Oct 16, 2017

If you enjoy challenging games, you will love Cuphead. It has all the elements of a great shoot 'em up— fun music, great level design, nice collection of weapons, and a rewarding difficulty curve. Long loading times aside, Cuphead gets pretty much everything right.

Minor technical issues aside, the stellar combat, engaging narrative, and quirky humour make this 30 hour romp through the quiet mountain town of South Park, Colorado, worth checking out. Particularly if the TV show's brand of humour gels with you. It's a marked improvement over South Park: The Stick of Truth in almost every way. [OpenCritic note: Rishi Alwani separately reviewed the XB1 (9) and Switch (8) versions. The scores have been averaged.]

Overall, Everybody's Golf is a fun game that pretty much everyone will enjoy. If you are going to be playing this, play with your friends locally or online for a fantastic experience. The single-player mode becomes a grind rather quickly and the game could use a few more courses to avoid feeling repetitive.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War might not have had the best time pre-release, but it manages to be a solid, competent follow up to 2014's Shadow of Mordor. It's a gigantic time-sink of a game that's well worth your time and attention.

If you can stomach its technical imperfections, the addictive loop of combat and exploration combined with a great roster of characters, and excellent production values make Battle Chasers: Nightwar well worth checking out. It might not be the biggest release of October but it's definitely one of the most enjoyable yet.
