DJ MAX Respect is nothing short of bliss for series fans old and new. A gorgeous interface, a massive selection of classic tracks with inspired new music, and enough content to keep players busy for untold hours. Apart from minor graphical nitpicks, DJ MAX's Respect biggest flaw is that it could make the PSP versions feel obsolete by comparison.
Thumper's difficulty continues to put a knife up to me and my 'X' button. The game thrives in it's mesmerizing atmosphere, soundtrack and difficulty, which is really all you need.
The Metronomicon is a new attempt at mixing the rhythm and RPG genres, and Puuba Games have largely succeeded in doing both genres justice. The game has the flow of a Harmonix title like Frequency/Amplitude and the RPG elements are deep enough to be rewarding without bogging down the experience. The developers were able to secure smart song choices that offer variety along with some known artists, and the game's presentation oozes with charm. The music and immediately recognizable rhythm elements are likely what will draw people to the game, but the sidequests and item collecting really flesh out the game. There is actually a lot to dive into given the game's reasonable price tag. While rhythm gamers might not see the highest challenge coming from the rhythm carts, The Metronomicon is a really satisfying experience when it all comes together and comes highly recommended.
A massive improvement over the previous entry, a songlist spanning the entire series which has something for everyone. Great visuals and welcome updates to the classic gameplay offers considerable replay value, but doesn't shine enough to be the definitive game in the series.
SUPERBEAT: XONiC recaptures the magic of peak rhythm gaming bliss. Excellent music, outstanding production values, and fantastic gameplay make this the full package. Fans of the vita version will find plenty to love, and newcomers will be enthralled.
Lumines Remastered polishes the original game to a shine, and welcomes a whole new generation to the puzzle party. It can be tough to master, but at a value price, it’s worth getting lost in the music and blocks all over again.
