The Longest Five Minutes is a very fun release from NIS America that is perfect for the Nintendo Switch since you can play the game in short burst at home or on the go and put the console in sleep mode to quickly carry on as soon as you have some free time, or you can play for longer sessions if you feel like it. The game's art style and music are great, and the gameplay mechanics and interesting story will keep you busy until the end. I'm very happy about what NIS America has done with this release, and I look forward to seeing what else they bring to the Nintendo Switch this year.
If you are wanting a tough and challenging stilized release on Nintendo Switch, then you should give 60 Seconds! Other than the controls which feel a bit awkward, the game offers an interesting take on the survival genre.
Overall, it's hard to recommend Sparkle 2 EVO on Nintendo Switch. The underlying premise is good, and when executed right it can make for a very fun release, but this one feels lacking in some areas. Perhaps the game can be patched to increase its content or add a new mode or two, but in its current state, it's not a very fun release.
Boiling Bolt is definitely different from other shoot 'em ups I have played, which is a pro and a con for the game. The way the playing field is limited will challenge even the more seasoned players of the genre. The game is short since there are only five main levels, but there's enough in there to keep speedrunners busy for a while. If you're a fan of the genre, this one might be right up your alley, as long as you're ready for a game that will test your skills to the max.
Ambition of the Slimes is a fun tactis/strategy/puzzle game with solid gameplay mechanics and an interesting premise that makes for a game that is easy to recommend on the Nintendo Switch. Its colorful presentation is very charming, and before you know it you'll have spent many hours playing the latest release from Flyhigh Works, making this one worth your time and money.
Raiders of the Broken Planet is a fun third person shooter on PlayStation 4 that is trying to do things a bit differently. Some things work and some need some extra work, but overall, now that the game's prologue has changed into the Eternal Soldier, and after some rebalancing and polish here and there, the current version of the base game is an experience that has definitely been improved, and it does make it easier to see where MercurySteam is taking the story with subsequent campaigns.
Invector is a fun rhythm game with a solid soundtrack from AVICII. Your mileage may vary if you're not a fan of his music, but the gameplay mechanics, colorful visuals, 22 AVICII tracks to play and three difficulty levels make for a fun rhythm game on PlayStation 4 that you should definitely check out.
Tallowmere is a fun roguelike game on Nintendo Switch that is worth a shot.
Although being a bit repetitive, 99Vidas is a fun release that will play the nostalgia angle to charm gamers. Beat 'em ups, by nature, feature repetitive gameplay, but 99Vidas does a good job at keeping things fun while paying homage to some of the classics in the genre. If you're a fan of beat 'em ups, then you should check this one out from – especially if you have some friends to play laong with!
The bite-sized nature of each level you take on, and the weapon progress will keep you coming back for more until you've managed to complete a full run through one of the potential routes before diving right back into it for another go. I highly recommend that you give Super Hydorah a go on PlayStation – I'm sure you're going to love it!
Overall a pretty decent racer and that is coming from someone who isn't a huge fan of the racing genre, I'm more of a karting or buggy kind of racer haha. Would love the game to make the transition to the Nintendo Switch, Imagine the game in portable mode on a bigger screen, Some day I hope that happens. 80's Overdrive won't appeal to the hard core racers, but it's a pretty decent game so why not give it a chance?
This game really spoke to me and hit all the right chords. I love retro art and adventure games with cool stories, and the multiple endings were a nice twist…everything is working for me here. That being said, if you don't value those things, this might not be the right game for you. I feel like it's a love letter from my past being channeled through a cybernetic email from the future and becoming a neat sentient package. If any of this sounded interesting to you, then be sure to give it a shot!
Son of Scoregasm is a game a lot of players will certainly enjoy as it's a PS Vita release that stands out from the crowd with its fun gameplay mechanics and colorful visuals. The game is definitely worth a look on your Sony portable, so don't miss out on this gem! The trophy list is fairly easy, with one trophy being the challenging on since it asks that you beat the game in Expert Mode… so good luck with that one!
Absolver is an interesting release on PS4 that definitely picked my interest and kept me coming back for more. The game's solid gameplay mechanic and unique progression mechanic are very fun to use and will certainly keep you engaged. There are a ton of potential combinations for how each player approaches its loadout, and the way you unlock new moves pushes you to fight new opponents at every chance you get.
Bloody Zombies is a fun game with some minor flaws that are not a deal-breaker. If you're looking for a solid beat 'em up for Nintendo's hybrid console, then this Switch release is just what you needed. The challenge in the Normal difficulty setting is good enough, but if you're looking for even more of a challenge you can dive back into the game on Hard and beyond!
Slayaway Camp: Butcher's Cut is a very fun and highly addictive sliding puzzle/slasher release on PlayStation 4 that you should definitely try. Even if gore is not your thing you can tone down the violence and still be left with an entertaining puzzle release with a ton of levels to complete, so be sure to check this one out!
Let Them Come is a fun arcade-style release on PS4 that will keep you coming back for more due to its addictive nature. Replaying waves after upgrading your weapons and skills will slowly but surely get you closer and closer to the end. The challenge continues to increase as you progress further and further into the game, but thanks to the many weapons and boosts you can purchase to add to your inventory, you'll certainly succeed in your mission.
Overall, Ginger: Beyond the Crystal is a fun and colorful collect-a-thon platformer with plenty of things to do during your adventure.
If you're in a monster hunting mood, and are a fan of 2D shoot 'em ups, then you should give Earth Atlantis a go on Nintendo Switch. The game's art-style is great and its giant bosses will definitely test your skills the further you progress in the game. With each boss you defeat a new path will open up, bringing you closer and closer to eradicating all of them.
Fragments of Him is a solid walking simulator that deals with some delicate topics in a sensitive way, with a focus on story above all. Sure, the game looks nice, but its minimalist art style might not be everyone's cup of tea. Hopefully that won't keep you from playing this short but meaningful release as you'd be missing out on a good walking simulator.
