A or higher - Dead Cells
Jan 25, 2019

Dead Cells is one of the first games I feel has pushed the rogue-like action platformer since Rogue Legacy, a classic in its own right. Definitely find this game on PC or Switch.

Airheart takes a unique look on a roguelike game and handles unlike other twin-stick shooters. Generic storyline interjections aside the game crafts a nice looking world and keeps the challenge varied. I would recommend this for fans of the roguelike genre.

A or higher - Semblance
Jul 30, 2018

Gameplay is king and it shows in this title. The game oozes fun and lightheartedness, but beneath that is a powerful story told through some of the best environmental storytelling I've seen since Gone Home or RiME. Semblance was made by a group of students as their final university project. But in my opinion, it should be taught to design classes for its expert execution. Semblance is a masterpiece.

This game is fun, damn challenging fun. Though it seems simple and goofy, it's a fun action game with some meat on its bones. I would recommend picking up this tasty morsel.

A or higher - Two Point Hospital
Sep 14, 2018

Two Point Hospital is something I've been missing for a long time. The gameplay is terribly addicting, the humor gets me, and I just can't get enough. Even if you're not a simulation fan, you will find fun playing this game.

A or higher - Pathfinder: Kingmaker
Oct 18, 2018

Pathfinder Kingmaker blends the experiences of a traditional tabletop RPG and an isometric dungeon crawler into a solid experience clearly inspired by some of the greats of the genre. With a little more polish on certain gameplay aspects this could be perfect, but it's still a deep and rewarding RPG with enough customizability for you to play it how you want.

A or higher - GRIS

GRIS is a moving work of art. If the stunning visuals don't entice you to play, then the messages from the story will. If you haven't played GRIS yet, then do so immediately.

A or higher - Arca's Path
Jan 4, 2019

At first glance, Arca’s Path looks like a simple marble game. But it is much more than that. The story helps motivate you to keep going through the challenging levels. And the hand's free controls work extremely well, and ties into what the protagonist is going through. I really enjoyed Arca’s Path, and recommend you add it to your growing VR library.

A or higher - Katana Zero
May 21, 2019

Katana Zero looked fun to me when I first saw it announced and I thought it might end up being a fairly shallow experience but I'm glad to be entirely wrong. This game pulled me in for hours at a time with its world and story and I can't recommend it enough if action platformers are your thing.

A - Kunai
Feb 6, 2020

Kunai is a wonderful game and another stern reminder as to why I keep kicking myself for avoiding the Metroidvania genre for as long as I’ve had. Clearly this is a genre still in it’s renaissance period with new, inventive play styles still coming out at a decent pace and kunai is no exception to that rule. TLDR: It’s a good game. Buy it.

In a world where choices affect so many outcomes, Wasteland 3 emphasizes the phrase “choose wisely.” Your outcomes will greatly differ depending on how you complete main and side missions, as well as how you use the many skills and attributes to fill out your ultimate Ranger squad. Wasteland 3 is a remarkable game that gives you tons of meaty content that you can spend hours and hours with.

I give Lost Words an A. It may not be what one would expect from traditional gaming but it delivers it's vision so beautifully it's hard to ignore it's presence and have fun experiencing what it has to offer.

Death's Door is a definitive Game of the Year candidate. The story is engrossing, the action is tense and fun, and the game is filled with memorable bosses and characters. I couldn't stop smiling while playing, even at times when I kept dying to challenging enemies. The game can be a bit short if you play straight through, but you will be rewarded if you take the time to explore. Death's Door is a must-buy, and I can't recommend it enough.
