Dark Devotion is a pretty decent game. It just doesn't do a whole lot to set itself apart in a field that already has some very good and polished entries. If you're a fan of the genre and looking for more of that, go for it, otherwise maybe pick-up a more polished title like Hollow Knight or Salt and Sanctuary.
Gato Roboto is a budget priced title on Switch that puts many more expensive games to shame. It's cute story, vibrant world, and unique art and audio. Definitely pick this one up.
Akane makes for a fantastic quick-playing rogue-like game on the cheap. What it lacks in depth of story it makes up for in stuff to unlock and style. It's worth picking up if you're a fan of rogue-like games or arena-based hack-and-slash games.
Katana Zero looked fun to me when I first saw it announced and I thought it might end up being a fairly shallow experience but I'm glad to be entirely wrong. This game pulled me in for hours at a time with its world and story and I can't recommend it enough if action platformers are your thing.
While The Legend of Evil has quite a bit to unlock and work towards this games difficulty kept pushing me away with frustration. Unlike other difficult games the rewards for overcoming a steep difficulty ramp just doesn't feel worth it.
Treasure Stack does one thing and it does it really well. It also features solid multiplayer support and season unlocks to keep the game fresh. For a solo player it can become repetitive and stale and the unlocks don't seem to have enough variety to stand out. All that being said I would still recommend this game for anyone looking for a fun puzzle game on Switch.
This game is an interesting take on the same old Tetris action. It's a great bonus if you already have Nintendo's service, and it's worth at least the price of a month of the service to try out. I would highly recommend it.
Dead Cells is one of the first games I feel has pushed the rogue-like action platformer since Rogue Legacy, a classic in its own right. Definitely find this game on PC or Switch.
If you take away every word of written dialogue and every story note of this game, it could be tolerable, although it still wouldn't control well without a touch or mouse interface. If you want to try this game, I suggest a different platform.
Earthfall ends up feeling very middle of the road, and efforts to add progression systems feel about the same. The game has promise, but just don't seem to run anywhere unique or special with the concept.
Lethal League Blaze is a solid local and online multiplayer game that works well competitively, and as a party game for people to pick up and laugh over. Blaze has improved upon the original formula in every way.
Airheart takes a unique look on a roguelike game and handles unlike other twin-stick shooters. Generic storyline interjections aside the game crafts a nice looking world and keeps the challenge varied. I would recommend this for fans of the roguelike genre.
Pathfinder Kingmaker blends the experiences of a traditional tabletop RPG and an isometric dungeon crawler into a solid experience clearly inspired by some of the greats of the genre. With a little more polish on certain gameplay aspects this could be perfect, but it's still a deep and rewarding RPG with enough customizability for you to play it how you want.
An absolutely charming mix of puzzle and pool mixed with a lot of variety and unlockables. I would highly recommend trying this one out.
Death's Gambit does a good job of blending a beautiful pixel world with the challenge of a souls-like game while still managing to be easy for newcomers. Minor gripes keep it from being a solid A.
Shio is a challenging platformer for a cheap price, but it compares itself to much better games you could play for about the same price. I recommend one of those games if you are looking for something like this.
20XX does such a perfect job landing the feel of a Mega Man X game, and it adds in a heaping helping of progression and replayability that has had me coming back over and over and over.
If you, like me, find a lot of fighting games intimidating to approach Pocket Rumble might just be the game for you. The easy to learn controls, but hard to master characters gives plenty of room to really sink into this one.
Dig or Die stands out in most technical ways from other survival crafting games of this style, but it's lackluster visuals leave it looking like a lot of other entries in the genre.
The world of Battletech drew me into this game, and the combat, while not well explained, kept me trying over and over again to tackle missions that kept pushing back on my less-than-amazing brute force tactics. A must play for any tactical or strategic minded player.
