8 / 10.0 - LONE RUIN
Jan 11, 2023

It’s not hard to recommend Lone Ruin, particularly if you are into the genre. It’s a good price, atmospheric and a lot of fun. It’s not the longest game you will play this year. but you will still find yourself coming back for another go. Definitely check it out.

An excellent master of a flawed old handheld game, with somewhat fewer warts.

Kirby Return to Dreamland Deluxe is a great port and a must for Kirby fans. It has enough new content to warrant a rebuy, and due to the unique recipe of Kirby games, it feels just as good as Kirby and The Forgotten Lands. If your looking for a cheerful platforming adventure, then this is a must for your Nintendo Switch collection.

Final Fantasy XVI represents a step forward for the franchise in terms of enhancing gameplay elements, but it falls short of being a truly engaging combat experience, with the otherwise fun Eikon ability system being let down by a lack of difficulty. The game thrives as a story-driven experience, with consistently spectacular scenes made more immersive by the outstanding voice acting and fine attention to detail in graphical design. Some players may find themselves wanting more from the sound design, but when the music is on point it truly shines. If rich storytelling, extensive lore, and enticing worldbuilding are your thing, you’re unlikely to be disappointed here.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is an amazing game that has a few shortfalls, one of which is the horrible camera system. It is a difficult game, but once you get the hang of it, you will have a lot of fun.

8 / 10.0 - Mortal Kombat 1

Mortal Kombat 1 is another great fighting game that released in 2023. While it exhibits some of the same faults previous entries did, the Kameo system adds a new depth to the main mechanics.

A great follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077 with a stellar cast that brings a thrilling story to the streets of Dogtown. The gameplay changes bring it up to a better standard, but if you are not a fan of the original, don’t expect Phantom Liberty to change your mind.

8 / 10.0 - Ghostrunner 2
Oct 23, 2023

Ghostrunner II masterfully carries forward its signature acrobatic combat, embedding it seamlessly into a dystopian backdrop. Despite some new gameplay aspects needing a touch-up, its foundational experience is distinctively gratifying.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a gorgeous open-world adventure that, despite having some similarities to Ubisoft’s own Far Cry, has its own identity that begs you to explore every nook and cranny. That exploration won’t be for everyone, but for those of you tired of having your hands held, there’s a lot to see, do, and enjoy.

Eiyuden Chronicle is a fantastic first entry from Rabbit & Bear Studios in an attempt to bring back Suikoden. A by-the-numbers plot holds it back from truly achieving greatness, but a strong cast and exciting base building makes this a must-have for all fans of classic JRPGs.

Alone in the Dark serves up a classy and confident slice of old-school survival horror, all sliding puzzles, creaking floorboards, and long, dark shadows. Though it lacks the grander scope of its Shock & Gore contemporaries, this quaint tribute to yesteryear impresses with its kooky cast, strong atmosphere, and vintage ‘ghost story’ vibes. Crucially, Alone in the Dark finally fans have a new adventure they can be proud of.

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order brings a unique take to the world of Star Wars by implementing a Soulslike element to it. This is an excellent immersive adventure with flashy moves, incredible music, remarkable graphics, and a fantastic story that does a great job of setting up the next game.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is an emotional rollercoaster packed in a visual novel style gameplay that is excellent from start to finish. The lackluster battle system lets it down and at times, gets in the way of a game that would be better without it.

7.5 / 10.0 - Super Mario RPG
Nov 21, 2023

Super Mario RPG is a faithful remake of the 1996 classic, which adds several new gameplay features and some welcome quality-of-life updates. While the revisioned graphics, sound, and music are amazing, the storytelling is still very basic with a challenge that is somehow easier than the Super Nintendo original. However, if you can stomach the price, which is a bit high considering the overall package, there’s still a lot of fun to be had here.

Rogue Trader is very much a release in the Owlcat Games mould, combining a great degree of customization with a solid story, meaningful choices, and interesting characters. While all that, combined with excellent use of the Warhammer 40,000 setting, comes perilously close to pushing Rogue Trader into the greatest realm of CRPGs, unfortunate balance issues, obtuse design elements, and myriad bugs prevent the title from achieving its full potential.

One of the most esteemed and cherished RPGs of all time returns, smoother and smarter than ever. Nonetheless, its indelible cast retain their infectious social spirit, set to break your heart and burn your dread all over again.
