Maybe I'm being too harsh, as this was my first Point&Click experience. On the other hand, since then I've tried the first Deponia a thousand times, and I really don't like the experience. Maybe it's the genre I like the least, even less than Formula 1 I believe.
Well, not to be unfair, the story can be interesting and cute, the atmosphere and design are nice and the logic is there. But even the humor is too childish, and the target audience doesn't seem to be exclusively children.
That said, I truly believe the game itself needs improvements, because the game is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. Not just the movements, but everything, everything. And knowing that the genre is about coming and going to solve puzzles, it's EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETERNALLYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. And with that, the SLOW animations are primitive. And on the other hand, you can finish the game in, at most, ONE HOUR. In other words, they managed to cram an eternity of BOREDOM and a game that is too short! Let's admit that this is impressive!
And look, they made the effort to include mini-games to be unlocked, but they are unplayable due to the terrible mouse management.
So, I can't recommend this game. It even has potential, but even so it shouldn't be for sale. And it should be clear that it's for kids.
Ok, I'm may be being a little unfair, since Gomo is my first point-and-click experience, and I still don't really know what to think about it. I feel that I could get to like this kind of game, but with some real improvements.
But what about Gomo itself? Well, it's... Interesting and kind-hearted! Nevertheless, that doesn't make a fun game nor a good game. It'll be easier to explain with the pros and cons system, so here it goes:
Pros:
It has some logic.
The art, the drawings and the idea have potential. It could be pretty interesting, with some dark humor for example.
Aaaaaaaand, that's pretty much it.
Cons:
The first thing that will bother you is that everything is sloooooooooooooooooow! The reactions are slow, the animations are slow and everything repeats, integrally, all the time! And, since it's a point-and-click and an investigation game, you keep trying things, searching solutions, so it forces you to witness the same slooooooow animation everytime. It gets really boring very quick.
The animations, even being repeated every time, are in fact too poor. You feel it could have been better. Sometimes it even impeaches you to go ahead, because you don't really know if what you did had some effect.
You can finish the game in... 45 min? 30 min? I don't even know if it's really a con now, but it's way too simple. I mean, you really feel mugged, even if it costed you 10 cents.
The humour is really childish, really. It's not a bad thing, but it should be noticed.
Aaaaaaand, you can unblock "extras", some kind of mini-games... Well, bad decision. The first problem is that the mouse doesn't really work, so I won't even bother talking about the rest.
So, Gomo has potential, but that's all. Unless it's an introduction for kids into the gaming world, but you should know it since the beggining. Too bad.
