PsyChuan Dread Delusion Review

My personal favourite game of 2024. Incredible atmosphere, and the most fascinating worldbuilding I've seen in a long time. People keep comparing it to Morrowind, but I don't think that's accurate, and the comparison is only skin deep. The combat is not challenging but it neatly fills the purpose of breaking up travel. You don't want to do it, you don't have to. There's always multiple ways to complete things. Stealth, combat, social. But the game is worth sticking around for until the end. It's beautiful, it's fantastical, it keeps you guessing. The game sets out to capture a Feeling, to evoke an emotion, to take you back to the sense of wonder you felt when playing a game just after the leap from 3D to 2D, when games were more willing to take risks and explore narratives.
Pros
Incredible worldbuilding
Beautiful and atmospheric soundtrack
Compelling story
Rewarding exploration
Multiple conclusions to each story and quest
Multiple ways to approach each problem
Takes risks in an era saturated with "design by committee"
